Beach Clean-Up

There is a big litter problem on the island and volunteers of the Secret Garden Conservation Project  do a daily cleaning on Sairee Beach in order to help keep Koh Tao beautiful.

The main items collected are plastic bags, cigarette butts, straws, and beer and water bottles. Thousands of each of these items are collected by volunteers each month.

Erosion Prevention Project

Road and reservoir construction projects on the island have taken their toll on the natural landscape of the island. This has resulted in several landslides which have deposited sediment onto the delicate reef in Tanote Bay; choking the coral from sunlight.

Secret Garden Volunteers have planted king grasses and transplanted other native species along the embankment of the slope in order to prevent further erosion.  These plantings are being monitored weekly for growth and erosion prevention effectiveness.

Marine Conservation

On the island of Koh Tao, land conservation and marine conservation go hand-in-hand. Past volunteers have worked with other local conservation groups like Save Koh Tao for monthly coral reef cleanings and the BioRock Project.
